The professionals have been finalized for Monday’s Calusa Pines Pro-Am for cancer charities.
Johnny Miller and PGA Tour golfers Jason Gore, Anthony Kim and Frank Lickliter will join Bonita Springs’ Peter Jacobsen, Naples resident Rocco Mediate, 2008 U.S. Ryder Cup captain Paul Azinger and Arnold Palmer.
Last month, tournament organizers announced Palmer would make a rare appearance and participate in the pro-am, which is not open to the public.
“I do not make many playing appearances these days, but I am pleased to be participating in the Calusa Pines Pro-Am, since it benefits cancer charities in the Naples area,’’ Palmer said through spokesman Doc Giffin. “It’s been several years since I have played in the Naples area and I’m looking forward to joining Peter Jacobsen and the other pros and amateurs. It should be an enjoyable day.”
Palmer played in Naples’ Champions Tour event six times, the last in 2000. He also played in 1989, 1990, 1991, 1998 and 1999.
Calusa Pines founder Gary Chensoff, a cancer survivor, started what he hopes will become an annual event.
Chensoff cited a letter from Palmer as something that helped him get through his own battle with the disease.
Each professional will pair with four amateurs for 18 holes of play. Following play, the amateur participants will enjoy dinner with their professional partners along with an exclusive auction event featuring a number of much sought after golf destinations.
Jacobsen’s production company is managing the event. For more information, call 949-0060.
All proceeds remaining after the expenses of the event will go to benefit cancer charities and will further Calusa’s mission statement of giving back to the community.
Calusa Pines, an exclusive invitation-only club that opened in 2001, is one of only five clubs in America that are currently listed among the Golf Magazine and Golf Digest Top 100 U.S. courses, as well as Golfweek’s Top 25 Modern U.S. courses.
Golfweek also recognizes Calusa Pines as the No. 1 modern private club in the state.
